Flu burung virus
Flu Burung is the name of a virus and it attacked my system recently.
I wanted to share about how it effects the system and how to encounter it .
Description : It is actually a variant of the more common virus which is spread by opening infected Microsoft Word documents. The more common type can be prevented by deleting infected Microsoft Word documents which have an .scr file extension (Screen Saver).
Functionality : It disables the function of the mouse. That is , it restricts the mouse pointer only to a few pixels on the screen ( center of the screen) so in the presence of the ' flu burung ' virus once cannot access the mouse though it works well.
This virus mainly affects the system through .doc files. It converts .doc files to .scr ( screen saver ) files.It corrupts few applications but luckily it doesn't damage the Operating system. It shows up to the user by opening a text file for every 30 seconds.
That text file contains some data, with the title of the file being " Flu Burung " and even if the user closes the file for every 30 seconds a new flu burung text file gets opened automatically.
Remember user access to mouse is disabled! in its presence. So for users who use keyboard more compared to mouse and know all the keyboard shortcuts very effectively handling this virus might be less tedious.
To encounter this virus , one can Run an online virus scan
in case you don't have an anti-virus installed.
* Note : most of the online virus scans on web run on IE 4 or + so do not try scanning in firefox browser and if Internet Explorer application is corrupted by the virus then you have to re-install it.
* Avoid accessing .doc , .rtf , .ppt files when this virus is ON!
* search for any file by the name " tomb raider.doc " and if you find it , delete it. Also delete any .scr files in you find any with the Microsoft word Icon.
As mentioned keyboard is the only way to Open , Close , Save applications or files while the flu burung virus ON !
So grab a few keyboard shortcuts! in case you are Flu-ed!

Ares automatically finds sources and downloads files from multiple users at once. This increases the download speed remarkably. It also provides file sharing chat rooms and now the latest version of ares supports BitTorrent protocol and Shoutcast radio stations.
This P2P application rocks as the file is downloaded in patches from multiple users at once and the file download is resume supported. The speed is fair and one can also chat with the person from whom the file is being downloaded. The program size is less than 5mb its features are cool- > worth downloading.
Multiple files can be downloaded and the current download speed along with the file size is shown with graphs. The control panel in ares can be customized to modify security, download and upload transfer rates. Ares latest version also supports Torrentz.
That is bit torrent files can also be downloaded using Ares.

Why it annoys you sometimes ?

When you uninstall the older version of ares and install the updated version here are a few errors people encountered!
A few possible errors can be,
* The new version may not connect properly and the status might be displayed as Connecting....
* The files in the Transfer section could be in searching or idle status. The downloads might be in Idle state.
* Ares might hang upon starting .
* The ares program itself may auto close sometimes etc .
* File access error will be displayed at the downloads in the transfer section.
Encountering the above errors,
* File access error in the transfer section:
This occurs because you might have installed an anti-virus and it might have hanged or not properly installed . The anti-virus program try to block this file sharing program as it access open ports.
Fix: Go to the shared folder of ares and uncheck ' read only' permission .Un-install the anti-virus program& re-install it . restart your system . This will fix the ' file access error;.
* Downloads are in 'Idle' state or the status of ares is displayed as ' connecting'
This error might occur if you have installed other file sharing softwares like Emule , lime wire etc along with ares. As both try to access the open ports and ares might hang. Default port used is 32285
Fix: Go to control panel in ares and in that you can find
" Accept Incoming connection on port : ---- "
Try changing the port number ( try a few alternate numbers ) and click on 'connect' on the top in the same screen.
You can also cancel the existing downloads in the transfer panel and change the shared folder path to solve this.
